SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The suspect in the murder case of 10-year-old Hailey Owens is formally charged today with first-degree murder, child kidnapping, and armed criminal action.
Craig Michael Wood appeared in the Greene County Associate Circuit Court via video from the Green County Jail this morning.
The probable cause statement says the girl was shot to death, and police found her body wrapped in plastic in Wood's home.
Investigators’ court documents show they found other evidence including a .22 caliber shell and a 3-ring binder with child pornography in the suspect’s home.
Associate Circuit Judge Dan Imhof ordered Wood held without bond, and set a preliminary hearing for April 7.
Wood’s Public Defender, Chris Hatley, asked for a new judge for the preliminary hearing, which could be decided on March 19.
