Rainy weather couldn’t dampen the best Superhero Showdown yet!
The Branson R-IV Education Foundation’s Superhero Showdown 3 was held indoors on Saturday, October 5 at the Branson High School. The event opened in the gym with the singing of the National Anthem by the Branson Intermediate Schools Honor Choir and continued with games and activities for the families in attendance.
LeeAnn Reusch, teacher at Branson Junior High, provided some of the activities with equipment she received from a grant awarded last year by the Foundation. Ronald McDonald himself attended the event, provided games and took pictures with the kids. Then the crowd moved into the BHS Auditorium for the main event… the Superhero Showdown 3 Game Show!
Branson Schools battled it out in a game of wits as they tried to prove that they were smarter than a fifth grader, and showed their skills in a minute to win it. Although it was close, in the end Cedar Ridge Elementary took the title by raising the most money!
The Superhero Showdown 3 event topped previous events by raising more than $41,000 through corporate sponsorships, raffle ticket sales and the incredible fundraising efforts of our Superhero Sidekicks, who alone raised over $16,000.
We owe the success of the Showdown to our Event Co-Chairs Heather Burney and Dr. Stacey Bowling, as well as the many volunteers that devoted their time and effort. The Branson R-IV Education Foundation Board would like to thank our Event Sponsor McDonalds, and our Superhero Sponsors: Akers & Arney; The Bank of Missouri; Dot and Leon Combs; Cox Health; Edward Jones, Mac McGregor; LaQuinta; Ozark Mountain Bank; Ozark Mountain Ear Nose and Throat, Dr. Travis Brawner, MD, FACS; Ozarks Family Vision Centre; Quigg Creative; State Park Marina; The Tracks Family Fun Parks and White River Valley Electric.
The Foundation would also like to thank Mrs. Alisa Cornelison and the Branson High Mass Media group, Debbie Corbin and the Branson High Tech group, the Branson High Drama class, Honor Society and Cheerleaders. And a very special thanks to our incredibly funny Game Show emcee’s Jim Barber and Shannon Thomason (Apple Jack).
The Branson R-IV Education Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and was established in 2010 by like-minded Branson community members to establish a means for accepting financial donations and managing them under one roof. The Foundation is independent of the Branson R-IV School District, but serves as a complement to the District in a financial time when not only Branson, but all public schools have felt the impact of fewer community tax dollars and drastic budget cuts by the state and federal government.
Prior to this year’s event, the Foundation had raised close to $60,000 through our Superhero Showdown events and given nearly $50,000 for Teacher Grants and Student Scholarships. We could not accomplish this without the generous donations and support from our community.
