The Federal Emergency Management Agency announced Wednesday that six northwest Arkansas counties have been declared federal disaster areas due to heavy rains and flash flooding in early August.
The declaration includes Benton, Boone, Carroll, Madison, Marion and Newton counties. The declaration means that those counties are eligible to apply for public assistance for emergency work and repair or replacement of disaster-damaged facilities.
In separate press releases, both of Arkansas’ U.S. Senators, Mark Pryor and John Boozman, said they were pleased with the declaration, calling it crucial to helping families and businesses get back on their feet.
