Green Forest Liquor Ordinance Comes to Goddell's Attention

One northwest Arkansas community’s liquor ordinance brought a smile to the face of the NFL Commissioner recently.

In January, the Green Forest City Council approved operating guidelines for businesses serving alcohol in the city limits. There were two specific provisions in the measure – that liquor sales were allowed during an establishment’s regular business hours, and that an exception would be made allowing alcohol sales during designated hours on the day of the Super Bowl.

The ordinance was sent to the Arkansas Municipal League to update Green Forest’s records. Cathy Moran of the Municipal League saw the provision and forwarded a copy of the ordinance to NFL Commissioner Roger Goddell.

Then, recently, Moran received a response from the commissioner, complete with a hand-written note.

The note read (quote), “Thank you for sending a copy of the amended ordinance from Green Forest. It provided me with a good laugh. I’m glad to see you have your priorities straight in Green Forest.”
