A retired Arkansas Game and Fish officer is the new Searcy County Sheriff.
It took less than 20 minutes last night for the Searcy County Quorum Court to pick Donald Ragland from among eight candidates to replace Kenny Cassell as sheriff and collector. The vote for Ragland was eight to one.
The state Supreme Court decided last month that Cassell had to step down because of a misdemeanor conviction on Cassell’s record from over 30 years ago.
Ragland will serve as sheriff through the end of next year. He is prohibited by state law from running for reelection in 2014.
